Tell MD Legislators: More trees, please!

Despite efforts to stop forest loss and increase forest cover, the Forest Conservation Act is still not as effective as it could be. Development is the largest driver of forest loss, making the Forest Conservation Act a critical tool for forest protection. However, the Act still has several identified loopholes, exemptions, and provisions that need to be strengthened.

There have been multiple stakeholder examinations of forest loss in Maryland and but the existing recommendations to improve the Forest Conservation Act to reflect our modern goals and policies have not been enacted. A task force that would make recommendations for legislation to offset all forest loss is desperately needed.

Urge your legislator to support a task force for the Forest Conservation Act that would bring Maryland closer to stopping forest loss.
